European Central Bank (ECB) president, Jean-Claude Trichet, has declared “no liquidity or collateral shortage for the European banking system”. Speaking at an emergency meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs yesterday, Mr Trichet responded to concerns over the deterioration in financial markets since mid-July, in both the euro area and elsewhere.
